Together with WiNoDa, SODa invites you to participate in the SODa WissKI Bits How-to-Tutorial, a hands-on introduction to ontology-based research data modelling and implementation with WissKI (Wissenschaftliche Kommunikationsinfrastruktur - Scientific Communication Infrastructure) moderated by Canan Hastik and Gudrun Schwenk.

Would you like to gain a structured and accessible introduction to WissKI - or do you know someone who would benefit from one? Then this tutorial series is the perfect opportunity. Following the principle of learning by doing, the sessions combine conceptual understanding with practical exercises and can be attended independently, while also forming a coherent learning sequence.

Over two consecutive days, participants will explore the fundamentals of ontology-based research data modelling in three interconnected 90-minute modules. Using a continuous real-world example, the tutorial demonstrates how semantic data models are developed from collection data and subsequently implemented within WissKI.

The tutorial series provides a practical introduction to semantic modelling, RDF-based knowledge representation, and sustainable research data practices. Participants gain hands-on experience with semantic workflows, ontology development, and WissKI implementation. The modules are designed for beginners as well as for participants with initial experience in semantic modelling.

Learning Objectives

These three 90-minute workshops introduce semantic modelling and sustainable research data practices for scientific and cultural heritage collections using WissKI. Participants explore how ontology-based modelling, CIDOC CRM, and RDF graph structures support interoperable, FAIR, and reusable research data across institutional boundaries.

Combining technical, content-related, and educational sustainability, the workshops demonstrate how semantically enriched data preserve meaning, context, and long-term usability. Through practical exercises with the Semantic Coworking Space (SCS), Protégé, and Draw.io, participants gain hands-on experience in modelling, implementing, validating, and reusing semantic research data infrastructures.
